Project Description

As part of the expansion of the “Las Pavas” drinking water treatment plant, 2 new tanks were built for the processing of water from the main river of El Salvador, El Rio Lempa, which distributes drinking water to San Salvador.

Solution

64 Controlled Module Columns (CMC’s) were made in order to guarantee a settlement of 1.50 centimeters below the extension in the Las Pavas treatment plant. The CMC’s were built 400mm in diameter and 15m deep with a maximum grid of up to 2.65m x 2.15m. After the construction of the CMC’s and their respective decapitation, a 50 cm thick load transfer layer was formed, which is responsible for transmitting the loads from the slab to the CMC’s. In order to verify the proper behavior of the CMC, a load test was performed on a CMC.
